Professor of Vaccinology, Chief Scientific Officer – Centre for infectious Disease Research in Zambia
Roma Chilengi is a Zambia medical doctor, epidemiologist and professor of vaccinology. He presently serves as Chief Scientific Officer at the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia and is a full professor at University of Lusaka. He leads a diverse research programme on enteric diseases and vaccine research covering pathogen biology, field epidemiology and clinical trials with a strong bias to vaccine development.
He has over 20 years of research experience having worked previously as Scientific Officer at the Tropical Diseases Research Centre in Zambia, African Malaria Network Trust in Tanzania, and KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kenya. He oversees academic training of research fellows and runs multiple large research grants and has over 140 peer reviewed journal publications.
His current interest has resulted establishment of human infection challenge models in Zambia beginning with rotavirus and Shigella challenge models.
